New Maersk Triple-E Proves Efficient and Eco-Friendly

Triple E Maersk

Maersk has about 5 months before the big launch date of their new, ground-breaking Triple-E ship which is scheduled for delivery on June 28th, 2013. We are excited that such a prominent player in the shipping industry is being proactive about emissions and fuel efficiency.

A few features about the "Worlds Largest Ship"

  • The vessels will reduce CO2 emissions by 50% per container moved (as compared to the industry average within the Asia-Europe trade route) This is possible because of Maersks Triple E hull design, energy efficient engine and waste-heat recovery system--which actually uses exhaust gas to produce additional energy.
  • The ship moves at a lower speed.  The small adjustment from 25 to 20 knots cuts fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
  • 98% of the Triple-E class vessel is steel.  Maersk has created a "Cradle-to-Cradle Passport which lists and describes materials used to build the ship, location and how to quickly and correctly disassemble and recycle or dispose of said material.

For a quick video on the building of the Triple E, see below.  We look forward to seeing her on the seas, bringing down overall shipping costs and creating better logistic options that are eco-friendly.
